I'm going to Rio from Feb. 16 thru Feb 21. I've heard there will be no games at Maracana because of the Rolling Stones concert and the Olympics. Is this true? Will the games be at Engenhao instead?

Sergio said...

Hi there.
Thanks for visiting the blog.
The Rolling Stones Concert is confirmed for Maracana stadium on 20th february and the stadium must be closed for getting ready.
We still need the football schedule to be confirmed.
Engenhao stadium will also be used for the Olympic Games and they haven't yet confirmed when that stadium will be closed.
Please visit the blog again later or just contact me directly for further information, ok?
Thanks. Cheers.

Bonsoir Titi.

Hi Oshri,

Ola!

Have just arrived in Rio and would like to go a game. Which one is 'best' in your opinion of the ones 2nd, 3rd and 4th of Feb?

I am guessing there are no actual games at Marcana for the month of Feb?

Obrigado!

Oscar

Sergio said...

Hi Oscar.
Thanks for visiting the blog and contacting me.
Unfortunatelly it was confirmed that Maracana stadium WILL NOT be used at this beggining of the year. They are preparing it for the Olympic Games in august.
Local teams have then to play at very small stadiuns in the suburbs of Rio or even outside Rio. Most of them not really worth it going. Sorry about that.
None of these games will be soldout and tickets will be available.
With Maracana not being used, the best options are games played at Sao Januario stadium, because it's closer to south Rio, where most people usually stay at.
Please contact me directly for any further information.
Cheers.

I'm in Rio March 12 to March 14 - do you know if there will be any football matches on in Rio on those dates?

Thanks

Hi Sergio, I'm visiting Rio and don't speak Portuguese. Would the Sao Januario stadium be safe for me and my girlfriend for the Botafogo match on 21st? I had hoped the Vasco vs Flamenco game would be at the Maracana, but we were warned not to go to Sao Januario. Thanks.

Sergio said...

Hi Mark.
Thanks for visiting the blog.
The schedule for that period wasn't yet been released, but for sure we won't have any game at Maracana stadium.
Unfortunately it was confirmed that Maracana stadium WILL NOT be used at this beginning of the year. They are preparing it for the Olympic Games in august.
Local teams have then to play at very small stadiuns in the suburbs of Rio or even outside Rio. Most of them are not really worth it going. Unless you are really really into watching a football game in a different environment.....
Please contact me directly for any further information.
Cheers.

Sao Januario stadium is a nice old stadium but is placed at a not so safe area. In this case it's better to catch a package (ticket+transport included).
Please contact me directy if you need any further information.

Hello Sergio,
Visiting Rio April 23rd to the 27th. Where can I see the April schedule? Should safety be an issue if traveling to a match outside of Rio?
Thank you

Sergio said...

HI Sass,
Thanks for visiting the blog.
The schedule for april hasn't yet been released. BUT Maracana WILL NOT be used, ok?
Games are played at many small stadiums in the suburbs and also outside Rio.
Safety must be consider when travelling to games in the suburbs.
Please contact me directly if need/want any further information, ok?

Salut Sergio,

Sergio said...

Bonjour Walid.
Merci.

Sergio said...

Hi there.
Tickets for sunday 3rd april may cost around 40-60 reais. They're on sale at both clubs and at Vasco stadium. You can also check at your hotel for a package (ticket +_transport). The stadium isn't really at a safe area.
Please contact me directly if need any further information.
Cheers.

Salut Sergio,

merci Bcp.
Obrigado

Sergio said...

Bonsoir Walid.
Merci.

Hi Sergio

Will there be a game at he maracana on the 14th April? I have seen some websites saying there is? Would it possible to pay someone to come to the game with us?

Thanks, Tim

Sergio said...

Hi Tim.

Unfortunately Maracana is closed and is now under IOC control. Even the visits are closed.
Sorry about that.
Rio's local teams have been played at very smalls stadiums in the suburbs or outside Rio.

Hi Sergio,

We are 25 students from the Netherlands and we are going to Rio de Janeiro for a studyweek from 30 april till 8 may.
What will be the price for 25 tickets and is this a safe match because of any supporters rivalries?

Thijs

Sergio said...

Hi Thijs,
The final will be Vasco x Botafogo at 4pm at Maracana stadium.
Tickets price weren't yet announced and aren't yet on sale. They may cost around 100 Reais and will probably be on sale from previous wednesday at both clubs and at the stadium....
The stadium is divided into 2 sides and you may have to choose one or another.
It's not that bad to go. It's a truly Brazilian experience !
Please let me know if you need any further information.
Cheers.

Hi Sergio,

Is there a possibility to help me with the tickets, because the sites of Vasco and Botafogo are Portuguese. Maybe you know the best place (most safe place)
What do you recommend Vasco or Botafogo?
I'm really looking forward to surprise my group with a game at maracana

I really appreciate any help you can provide,

Thijs

Hi Heather,
Thanks for contacting.
So far, football games have been played outside Rio during the Olympic Games.
There are 2 games scheduled:
for 3rd september at 4pm (Fluminense x Figueirrense) and for 4th september at 6:30pm (Botafogo x Grêmio). They will not be played at Maracanã for sure, but we still need them to be confirmed at a suburbain venue. I will publish it at blog as soon it's confirmed.

Hi Maggie,

We have the Paralympic Games in Rio in september and both main stadiums in Rio (Maracana and Olympic Stadium) are still under the Olympic Comitee.
Both stadiums are supposed to be released in october but we don't have yet any specific date.
During your staying here from 30th september to 8th october we have a few games scheduled in Rio, but the venues haven't yet been confirmed. I will publish the schedule at the blog when it's confirmed, ok?

Hi Sergio,

Great blog! Do you know if the location of the 3rd september game at 4pm (Fluminense x Figueirrense) and 4th september game at 6:30pm (Botafogo x Grêmio) have been allocated a confirmed stadium at a suburbain venue of Rio yet?

I have read online the first is at http://uk.soccerway.com/matches/2016/09/03/brazil/serie-a/fluminense-football-club/figueirense-futebol-clube/2218072/venue/

And the second:

Can you confirm please?

Sergio said...

Hi Lawrie.
Thanks for visiting the blog.
The game on saturday 3rd september Fluminense x Figueirense is confirmed at 4pm at Giulite Coutinho stadium in the suburbs of Rio (Mesquita or Edson Passos).
The game on sunday 4th september Botafogo x Gremio is confirmed at 6:30pm at Luso Brasileiro stadium in the suburbs of Rio ( Ilha do Governador).
Both stadiuns have nicknames and it can make some confusion.
Sorry about that.
Please let me know if you need any further information.

Hi Sergio. The Brazil v Argentina game will not be played in Maracana in November 2016 is this correct. Also can you tell me when the Maracana will be open again after the Olympics,so that i can see a football game there. Thanks from Stephen

Sergio said...

Hi Stephen,
Thanks for visiting the blog.
It's right: the game Brazil x Argentina for 2018 World Cup Quallifying is announced to be played in Belo Horizonte City (remark it's not in Rio) and is supposed to be played on 11th november. But it hasn't been yet confirmed and published at Brazilian Football Confederation (http://www.cbf.com.br/).
You can contact me again later to confirm or you can also check at their website (I'm not sure if it's also in English)...
Maracana was announced to be released for local games only in november. Main clubs in Rio are trying to make it earlier...
I hope it helps.
Cheers,
Sergio

Hi Sergio
We will be in Rio from 5th November 2016 to 11th November 2016. I see that Flamengo are playing on sunday 6th .... is this likely to be at the Maracana?

We are also interested in going to see Vasco on Tuesday 8th. WE will get a taxi to the ground but what is it like getting back to Copacabana ? Taxi ? and how do we get tickets?

Thanks Dave Preston

Sergio said...

Hi Dave.
Thanksfor contacting.
I am not right now in Brazil.
But that Flamengo game must be confirmed for Maracana on 6th november. The stadium is still under repair after Paralympic Games and is promissed to be ready at first days of november. I will publish at the blog when confirmed.
Vasco plays at its own stadium in the suburbs. If you go there, either catch a package (ticket+transport) or catch a taxi (in/out).
Tickets for both games will only be available by a week before and may cost around 50-70 reais. Flamengo game usually atracts more people anyway.
Well, I hope it helps you.
Cheers.

Hello i will be in Rio this weekend where can i catch a game?

Sergio said...

Thanks for contacting.
There is a game on saturday but not at Maracana stadium.
It's at Sao Januario stadium. A nice stadium in the suburb of Rio.
Please check at your hotel reception if they are offering a package (ticket+transport) to that game. That stadium is not at a good area.
I hope it helps.
Cheers.

Hi David.
They might be put on sale at both clubs and at Maracana. But Flamengo sections must be soldout faster. Botafogo section tend to be easier to get tickets to.
Hope it helps...

Hi Segio- I’m trying to get 2 tickets for the Jogo das Estrelas tomorrow Dec 27 at the maracana. The website says unavailable but I read on a Facebook thread they sometimes sell tickets for one of the two halves of the game at the box office? If you have any insights please let me know. Is my best bet to to get there tomorrow a few hours before the game starts to try to get tickets at the box office or in your opinion when the website says unavailable it’s basically a long shot to try to get tickets? Thanks so much for your info/help!!

Sergio said...

Hi there,
Thanks for visiting the blog and contacting me.
Keep in mind that game tomorrow is a charity game and IS NOT an official game, ok? It's organised by a former player (Zico) who invites other retired players to joing him. We also have a preliminar game with Brazilian artists and singers well known by Brazilians.
I am not available for tomorrow's game. Sorry about that man.
Tickets were on sale at that website but now online sales are closed and tickets may only be on sale at Maracana stadium and costs 40 and 60 Reais. I haven't had any information about being soldout but that game usually atracts tones of people.
But please also contact your hotel. They usually offer packages (ticket+transport) to most of the games.
Well, I hope the information helps you out.
Please let me know if you need any further information, ok? I'm glad to help.
Cheers,
Sergio
