Sergio - great blog! My family of 4 are coming to Rio in March and want to see a game at the Maracana. We arrive on March 15 (could see an evening game) and depart on March 18am (for Amazon). We return late eve March 20 and will again be in Rio March 21 and 22 (depart evening of March 22).

Any suggestions re which date to take in a game and how to get tickets? Thanks for your help!

Sergio said...

Hi Glen,
Thanks for your comments!
Well, accordingly with your programming, you could attend a game on 15th march but it will not be played at Maracana stadium.
Then we have again a game on saturday 21st and sunday 22nd (it's a very good gam as it is a derby) both probably played at Maracana stadium.
Tickets aren't yet on sale and will be put on sale at the clubs and at the stadium by 2 or 3 days before each game. Price is around 30-40 Reais, the cheaper.
Please contact me directly if you need any further information, ok?
Cheers, Sergio.

Hi Sergio,
I am visiting Rio in October (10th-14th) and saw that on the 13th October, Brazil will play Venezuela in the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers. I'm struggling to find much information about the game (other than the date, the competition and that Brazil are the home team). Do you know if this game will be held at the Maracana and, if so, how I would go about getting tickets?

Thanks in advance for your reply and this useful list!

Hi Simon.
Thanks for visiting the blog.
Unfortunatelly, the first 2 or 3 games will not be played in Rio. The game Brazil x Venezuela in october will be played in Fortaleza city and Brazil x Peru in november will be played in Salvador city. Sorry man.
Rio and Sao Paulo may see the Seleçao only in 2016 or even 2017...
Please contact me directly if you want further information on football in Maracana.
Cheers.

Hello Sergio,

my girlfriend and I will be in Brazil between November 9 and November 20, planning to spend about a week in Buzios and the remaining three days in Rio.

I would love to see a game in Maracana if I can, however only if it is safe enough also with my girlfriend (I already went to a game in Medellin, Colombia with her).

Which game would you recommend for the best and liveliest atmosphere? I see that for November 18th/19th the game of Vasco da Gama against Corinthians Sao Paulo is scheduled! Looks like a local derby to me :D...will that be in the Maracana? What do I have to do to get hold of tickets? Can we go see that game with you? Or would you recommend a different game?

Thanks for your help in advance, we can't wait to come to your beautiful country!

Kind regards,

I will publish it as soon as they confirm it.

Hi Chris,
Sorry for the delayed answer...
Well, aparently the only game available during your staying here is the game Vasco x Corinthians on 18th november. It's not yet confirmed for Maracana stadium however. But you can definetelly go with your girlfriend.
You can go by yourself or get into a package. For both ways, tickets are usually put on sale about a few days before the game. Tickets costs around 40-60 reais the cheaper.
Please write me diretly and I will give you all information you may need not to miss the game.

Hi Sergio,

Thanks for putting all the info together, really helpful!
Me and my girlfriend will be in Rio from nov. 6 to 9. So the Fluminense - Chapecoense match at saturday 7th and the Flamengo - Goias match on sunday 8th are the options for visiting.

Three questions:
What match would you recommend (based on what I've read, Flamengo matches attract more visitors)?
Is it safe to visit a match ourselves?
In which section of the stadium should we buy tickets for a good atmosphere?

Thanks in advance,
Anton

Sergio said...

Hi Anton,
Thanks for visiting the blog.
Both games you mentioned are ok. But also as you said, Flamengo games tend to atract more people as it's the most popular team in Brazil.
Flamengo fans always sit at NORTH section and Fluminense at SOUTH section. These sections are the most popular.
You can visit a match by yourself. Just make sure you can get the tickets. They are usually put on sale a few days before the game and usually cost around 40-60 reais.
Please write me directly if you need any further information.
Thanks again for visiting by.

Tickets for both games are now available only for members and will be put on sale for general people from next wednesday or thursday. Price for Flamengo game is 50 Reais and for Fluminense may be the same or a bit more.

Hi Sergio

I will be in Rio at the end of this month. I am keen to attend Vasco - Fluminense, according to latest info I read it will be played at Maracana but some websites state 17h and this blog lists 18h on November 1st.

I would appreciate if you could help me with a few questions.

1. We fly back on the same day from Galeao airport at 22:45 local time - can we make it to the airport in time after the game?
2.My son is 11 years old - is it safe to take him to the game, I understand it can be sometimes "hot"before and after the game, the fighting between fans are possible
3.I will return to Rio from Manaus Friday before the game - will the tickets still be available a couple of days before the game or should they be purchased well in advance. If I need to get them in advance can I get them on-line?

Thanks in advance

28th/29th Fluminense x Internacional RS
28th/29th Vasco x Santos SP

What is the ticket price and what will the timings be for these matches? Our flight leaves Rio at 10:20PM on November 29. Do you think we can catch a game and make it to the airport?

Thank you in advance,
Prathima

Hi Prathima,

Hi Gianpaolo,

I truly believe that your best option to get to that game is to catch a tour.

Ask at your hotel reception when arriving. They might help you out.

cheers,

Sergio said...

Hi Ken,
Thanks for your comments.
I don't know if it will be soldout but definetelly it atracts lots of fans. Tickets are usually on sale at the stadium at the game day, but it would be better to have the tickets beforehand (for garantee) or arrive earlier at the stadium and buy them.
Unfortunatelly I am not offering the tour to that game. But you can also check at your hotel.
Taking children to football is ok. Specially at that game. It's more a football festival than a football game. People go there to see and aplaude old players...
Anyway, contact me directly if you want more detailed information, ok?
